Carat measures weight. Millimetres show size.
Two diamonds of the same carat weight may have slightly different diameters depending on their cut and proportions. These measurements are approximate for round brilliant diamonds. A 0.50 ct diamond therefore does not look twice as wide as a 0.25 ct diamond.
